Dietitians of Canada launches Recipe Analyzer

February 07, 2008 in Weight Management, Healthy Eating, More Healthy Cooking Resources

Canadians now have a new tool to help them make healthy eating choices.

Dietitians of Canada (DC) is pleased to announce the launch of Recipe Analyzer. Recipe Analyzer was developed with the support and collaboration of The Canadian Health Network.

This unique, interactive on-line tool offers consumers a quick and easy way to assess the nutritional value of their favourite recipes.  Users can create an on-line recipe binder and save their recipes. They can also do comparisons of two different recipes to see how they measure up nutritionally.

Recipe Analyzer lets you enter the list of ingredients of any recipe and then get:

  • A full nutrient profile for a serving of that recipe                                                                                                                                                                   i.e. how much saturated fat was in Tuesday's meatloaf?
  • The number of Food Guide servings the recipe provides                                                                                                                                                 i.e. are you getting 8 to 10 servings of vegetables and fruits?
  • Tips on how to change the recipe to make it more nutritious.                                                                                                                                          i.e. what would happen if you switched to wholegrain pasta?

"This is a great addition to our healthy eating resources," says a DC spokeswoman, "Recipe Analyzer is simple to use, and offers consumers a practical way to help plan healthy meals for themselves and their families."

Nutrition labelling is an ongoing issue with prepared foods sold in stores and restaurants in Canada. This new tool puts information at the finger tips of everyday cooks.

To use the tool, simply visit the Dietitians of Canada website: www.dietitians.ca/eatwell and click on Recipe Analyzer.
