Healthy Eating on the Fly

Planning on doing some flying in the U.S. this summer? Then you may be interested in a recent poll conducted by the Washington, D.C.-based Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. For the survey, PCRM rated the 10 busiest airports in the U.S. for the availability of low-fat, high-fiber, cholesterol-free entres. Eateries such as yogurt and coffee shops were excluded. Overall, they found that less than 60 percent of the airport restaurants offered healthy or vegetarian meals. The good news is that even in the 'worst' airports, you can usually find a bean burrito or a veggie burger. The ratings, from best to worst are listed below: (restaurants offering at least one healthy entre/total number of restaurants)

1. San Francisco - 24/25 or 96%
2. Minneapolis-St. Paul - 27/41 or 66%
3. Chicago-O'Hare - 18/28 or 64%
4. Denver - 14/23 or 61%
5. Los Angeles - 21/35 or 60%
6.Phoenix - 25/43 or 58%
7. Dallas-Fort Worth - 28/56 or 50%
8. Las Vegas - 13/29 or 45%
9.Atlanta - 17/42 or 40%
10. Detroit Metro - 9/27 or 33%
