Sesame Street helps fight child obesity

Sesame Street has taken on the challenge to fight childhood obesity, with an intiative designed to help kids learn about healthful eating and physical activity along with reading, writing and arithmetic. The makeover, entitled "Healthy Habits for Life," involves changes in key components, including our beloved Cookie Monster. Our furry blue friend is trimming down with the message that cookies are "sometimes food," in stark contrast to his care-free cookie-scarfing past.

Nutrition, done Sesame Street style, involves characters such as Mr. Healthy food, Singing Vegetables, and servings of Eggplant Parmalupagus. The show's line-up is packed with health messages - you can see a listing of segment descriptions at www.sesameworkshop.org
