Orange Ginger Smoothie

Fresh ginger gives this smoothie a refreshing and delicious taste - my taste-testers couldn't seem to get enough of it!  I prefer to use freshly squeezed orange juice, but it's not necessary.

Orange Ginger Smoothie

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredients
1 cup / 250 ml 100% pure orange juice
1 cup / 250 ml 1% or skim milk OR unsweetened soy milk
1 tsp / 5 ml grated or minced fresh ginger root
1 cup / 250 ml mixed fresh or frozen berries, such as strawberries, blueberries, raspberries

Directions

In a blender, combine orange juice, milk, ginger root and berries. Puree until smooth. Serve cold.

Per 1.5 cup (375 ml) serving: 148 calories, 2 g total fat (1 g saturated fat), 30 g carbohydrate, 2 g fibre, 6 mg cholesterol, 60 mg sodium.

Excellent source of vitamin C, potassium and anthocyanins (antioxidants in berries).

Tip: Turn this into a healthy protein shake:  use unsweetened almond milk in place of milk/soy milk and add one scoop of vegan protein powder or whey protein powder.
