2 tbsp | olive oil |
2 large | cloves garlic, chopped |
1 can | sardines, cleaned (bones and skins removed) |
1 (28-oz) can | crushed tomatoes |
1/2 cup | black olives, pitted |
2 tbsp | capers |
1/2 tsp | crushed basil |
freshly ground black pepper, to taste | |
8 oz | cooked linguini or cappellini |
crushed pepperoncino (red pepper flakes - optional) |
Directions
1. Heat olive oil in pan. Add garlic and saute until brown. 2. Add sardines to pan and mash until they are close to a paste. Saute for five minutes. 3. Add tomatoes and stir. Add olives, capers, basil and black pepper. 4. Cook for 25 minutes over a medium flame, stirring (from the bottom of the pan) occasionally. 5. Serve over linguini or cappellini. For extra bite, if desired, sprinkle pepperoncino on top of pasta and toss well.
