|1 cup||kasha groats|
|1/4 cup||scallions, sliced|
|1 cup||whole wheat flour|
|sliced cheese, optional|
|1 cup||mushrooms, chopped|
|4 tsp||tamari (soy sauce)|
|4 tsp||whole wheat flour|
|1 cup||cold water|
In saucepan boil water, add groats and salt and simmer 15 minutes; cool and set aside.
In small fry pan heat oil and sautee scallions until soft. Remove and cool.
Preheat oven to 300F. Season kasha with soy sauce to taste. Add flour and mix well. Add scallions and mix. When firm, make patties and bake on oiled cookie sheet. The last 5 minutes put cheese on burgers to melt. Makes 6-8 burgers.
For the sauce, heat oil and sautee scallions until soft with mushrooms. Remove and cool. Add flour and water, stirring constantly. Heat to boiling, lower and simmer 10-20 minutes, add water if needed. Add salt and serve with the burgers.
