New herb for menopausal women comes to Canada

If you're experiencing hot flashes, mood swings or vaginal dryness you may already be familiar with black cohosh, a herb used for over 40 years in Germany to treat menopausal symptoms. In fact, a number of randomized clinical trials have found black cohosh to be as effective as estrogen therapy in improving hot flashes. Or perhaps you've been following the research news on soy food (studies have found soy isoflavones to have a modest effect on hot flashes reduction). A new product called Estro-Logic combines a standardized extract of black cohosh with soy isoflavones, wild yam extract and other supportive herbs is now available in Canadian health food stores and drugstores. Available in the U.S. since June 1999, Estro-Logic was formulated by Dr. Kathleen Fry, a gynecologist practicing in Scottsdale Arizona. A clinical trial is underway and results should be published in 12 months… stay tuned.
