The allure of the low carb diet

Even though the low-carb guru is gone, his influence seems to be gaining strength by the day. According to a recent study conducted by IPSOS Reid, 61 percent of Canadians are trying to limit the amount of carbohydrates they consume. This is not good news for the bread and pasta lovers among us!

However, you can't stop change, which is definitely upon us as Dempster's announces the launch of Carb WiseTM. With seven grams of carbohydrate per slice, Carb WiseTM has only half the carbs of regular Dempster's bread. They claim the new low-carb bread keeps all of the "fresh baked taste" and is available in white and wheat varieties. Apparently the levels of starch and protein in the dough were varied and soy flour was added to produce a loaf with reduced carbs.

Wonder if it would sell as well if it were labeled low-carb soy bread?
