Astro Jeunesse ups the antioxidants
Astro brand yogurt has introduced a new variety to its line-up: Jeunesse, which is fat-free, sweetened with honey instead of artificial sweeteners, and contains added antioxidants. Jeunesse contains beta carotene and grape seed extract, so that, according to Astro, a 113 g serving of Astro Jeunesse equals a full fruit serving, as defined by Canadas Food Guide to Healthy Eating.

Jeunesse comes in six flavours: Blueberry Lemon; Orange Peach Mango; Peach Vanilla; Raspberry Blueberry; Strawberry; and Vanilla. A 113 g serving contains: 90 calories, 0 g fat, 70 mg sodium, 0 g fibre, 15 g (3 tsp) sugar, 3 g protein, 10% calcium. We rated yogurts last year, per 175 g serving, with top priorities of:
  • no more than 18 grams sugar
  • no more than 2 grams saturated fat
  • at least 20% DV of calcium
According to our criteria, Jeunesse scores well 0 g of fat and bonus points for the added antioxidants, but rates only 1 of 3 stars, because 175 grams runs high on the sugars (23 g) and low on calcium (15% DV). www.astro.ca
