New food products for back to school

Dare Foods have a slew of products that you can safely pack in lunch boxes if your school is a peanut-free zone. Citing increased consumer concern about foods that can cause severe adverse allergic reactions, especially in children, Dare has implemented strict quality control guidelines in three of their Canadian manufacturing facilities.

You can be sure that Dare products displaying the peanut free logo are safe because any products containing nuts or peanuts are now processed at different facilities. Dare's process and packaging equipment are regularly cleaned of allergens, they use suppliers that also have stringent allergen management processes, and their staff are not allowed to bring nut/peanut products into the facilities.

You'll find Dare's peanut free logo on such products as Bear Paws, Simple Pleasures, Viva Puffs and Ultimate cookies, Breton crackers, Grissol fine breads, JuicedUp and RealFruit soft candies, and Wagon Wheels. www.darefoods.com

If you're packing crackers in your scholar's lunch box, you might want to look for the Kraft Sensible Solution green logo on a new line of Christie products. Christie cracker favourites now come "baked with 100% whole grain" and zero grams of trans fat.  Here are the specs:

The introduction of these products proves that companies and consumers are getting the message that we need safer, more nutritious foods. We don't need to remind you though, that nut-free does not equal fat-free or calorie-free, right? Of course, neither does "whole grain".  Snack (and pack lunches) wisely.
