Soy supplements linked to improved mental function

Italian researchers have found that soy isoflavones could help preserve cognitive function and improve mood in post menopausal women.

The randomized, double blind clinical trial published in the journal Fertility and Sterility was based on 76 post-menopausal participants who received either a daily soy supplement (with 60 mg of isoflavones) or a placebo.

During a follow up period, extensive tests were performed to measure cognitive function and mood, including depression. Researchers found that women taking the soy isoflavone supplement had improved scores on 6 of the 17 follow-up mental function tests, while the placebo group showed no improvement at all.
