Doctors warn against dangers of low-carb diets

Researchers are again warning of the dangers associated with low carbohydrate, high protein diets.

This latest warning comes after an article in the British Medical Journal reported a 40 year old, obese women being treated for a life threatening illness known as ketoacidosis, a condition caused by low carbohydrate, high protein diets.

While the diets are popular for shedding pounds very quickly, other known side effects of the diet include constipation, diarrhea, headache, bad breath and ketosis.

This latest warning of the dangers associated with the diet also stated there is a lack of trials to examine the long-term effects of low carbohydrate diets. This latest warning appears in the British Medical Journal by researchers from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health.
